What Happens After You Book

Once your date is confirmed, we will send you an overview of what to expect on your trip, including:

  • Where to meet

  • What to bring

  • Weather considerations

  • River and safety guidelines

  • Local recommendations if you plan to stay overnight nearby

You will receive a confirmation and have the opportunity to ask any follow-up questions about your trip. We do our best to ensure each client feels fully prepared before the day of the trip.

Plan Ahead – Limited Availability

Drifting Waters is an independent, low-volume guide service. We focus on quality over quantity, meaning that availability is limited and early booking is strongly recommended, especially during spring and fall months when fishing conditions are ideal.

By keeping each trip limited to two anglers, we maintain the personal attention and instructional quality that Drifting Waters is known for. Booking in advance helps secure your preferred dates and ensures we can deliver the best possible experience for your group.

What to Bring

While much of the essential gear is provided, here is a short checklist of what you should bring with you for a successful and comfortable day on the Pit River:

  • Valid California fishing license

  • Polarized sunglasses and sun protection

  • Hat and sunscreen

  • Layered clothing (temperatures may vary throughout the day)

  • Wading boots or shoes (wet wading is possible in warmer months)

  • Waders if preferred

  • Personal items such as medications or snacks

  • A camera or phone for taking photos

If you do not have your own rods, reels, or flies, we will provide them for you at no extra cost. We also supply lunch on full day trips and drinks or snacks on half day trips.

Still Have Questions?

If you are unsure whether fly fishing is right for you, or if you want to learn more before committing to a date, we welcome your questions. Bill is happy to speak with you directly, answer concerns, and offer suggestions based on your interests and goals.

Every trip is custom-tailored, and our goal is to help each guest feel informed, comfortable, and excited to hit the river.

Let’s Fish the Pit River

The Pit River offers one of California’s most rewarding fly fishing experiences. It is remote, rugged, and packed with strong wild trout. When guided by someone who knows the water like a local — because he is — the experience becomes even more powerful.

If you are ready to schedule your trip or need more information, reach out today. We look forward to hearing from you and helping you enjoy an incredible day on the river.
